Hi all,

Could someone please help me set up my processor info so I can speed up my sims?

I have an Intel Quadcore w/ 4G ram and want HFSS to actually use it!!!!!!!

I thought the settings would be easy in tools>options>HFSS options, but nothing I do changes the CPU usage.

Also, if I have 4G of ram why does the sim crash when the convergance goes above 1.4G

In order for HFSS to utilize all the cores, you must purchase the MP or HPC license from ANSYS. HFSS by default will only access one core for solving. Also, depending upon your setup, HFSS solver may be trying to grab more than 1.4GB though you are unaware of it. For example, if you enable the iterative solver it will be very efficient on RAM and time. However, since the iterative solver is not suitable for all meshes, HFSS may determine that the iterative solver is a poor choice for the solution and revert back to the direct solver to ensure accuracy. You will need to post your profile for more info!

So unless I have the Multicore license I will only be running my Quadcore at 25%? I don't think my dept heads know this. They are using a "super computer" w dual quadcores. But you are telling me that no matter what, unless we have the HPC license, we can't fully use those cores/ram???

...Oh.

I think it is best you contact your ANSYS account manager to determine what you have and what you need. However, from my experience, you will need EITHER the HPC OR MP license to access multiple cores on a machine, otherwise you will run on no more than one core. I would also ensure with IT what your license actually includes and dot all your i's and cross all t's before getting to upset...it could just be an IT setup issue as well.
