hello sir,
i m designing an aperture coupled microstrip antenna.
i have designed it to operate on 2.2 GHz.
however, now i want to make it operate on 2.45 Ghz.
what are the changes to be made?

yup. m in india. gujarat. Birla Vishwakarma Mahavidyalaya... dude, i have made it in hfss 10. but i only need to change the dimensions to make it operate on 2.45 Ghz. do u know how?

thanks vinoth. i will send u private message if i have any problem.

@vinoth.
can u please tell me exactly how to do this?
i was unable to 'add optimization'.

Hi,
To get the desired results you would be like to do parametric sweeping and optimization.
1) Parametric: Define one or more variable sweep definitions, each specifying a series of variable values within a range, and HFSS solves the design at each variation.
2) Optimization: Identify the cost function and the optimization goal. Optimetrics changes the design parameter values to meet that goal.

Most probably doing parametric sweeping will give you the satisfied results. I am briefing procedure to do the same. Let me assume you are interested in varying the resonating length of patch antenna to get the target frequency.
First step is create a variable, go to Project-à Project Variables, window will popup like this.

Add the variable (say Patch_Length), this will be sweeped later in parametric analysis.
Right click optimetric-->Add--> Parametric Setup Sweep Analysis will open
In sweep Definitions Tab, Click ADD button.
Select the variable you want optimize for eg. $Patch_Length, Mention the variation you want in start, stop, step. Press ok.
Then goto optimetrics --> Analyze all parametric.
During the parametric analysis, Optimetrics will solve the design at each variation.
You will compare the results to determine how each design variation affects the S-parameters and return loss the patch. These results will help to determine a
reasonable parameter variation to achieve desired resonant frequency.
Hope this helps...

hello vinoth..
i did as u said.
and have done parametric analysis and got the results.
but how do i change it to get 2.45 Ghz. the graph still shows 2.28 Ghz.

hi vinoth,

i m a newbie in hfss

i have designed the balun structure in HFSS. Now i want to set the inner diameter of it as variable to do parametric analysis.

Is it possible???????

Thanks in advance......

Hi ddis,
Sorry for my late reply. I have recorded the steps to create design variables in HFSS. Please check the zip file attached.
Hope this helps...

Could you please what should be the goal for S11 if magnitude less -20 is desired for antenna.

Hi MobiNaz,
goal could be set like this...

Assuming that, you wish to have -20dB around 10.025 GHz by optimizing the variable "PatchX", which can vary from .595cm to 1.785cm.
