hey...im new 2 electronics...introduced 2 it for around 6 months and i am studying sedra and smith....and im not exactly impressed
in the internet i have come across books like fundamentals of electronics(razavi) ,gray meyers and howe and sodini...should i go for them or are they too much for an undergrad...

hey,
im a third year electronics student, the best book that Ive used is sedra smith. I also used grey and meyer but it was too advanced and it didn't help me at all.
razavi's books are also good but they are also advanced. if you are new to the topic sedra smith is the most detailed book between all those. because if you are new you need to be guided through derivations and stuff but books like grey meyer does not provide you with any guidance and assume you know how to derive stuff, where sedra smith explains everything in details.
so I would say stick to sedra and smith and try to get used to it.

how can u do all the sums..it seems impossible...can anyone tell me which sums to do!!

what do you mean by "all the sums"?

has anyone compared razavi's "fundamentals of microelectronics" to sedra/smith "microelectronic circuits" ?

if you are referring to me, and if the question is a rhetorical one implying that it is riddiculus even to compare the two books since razavi's is far better than the latter, then my answer is no. I even haven't seen razavi's microelectronic circuits.

Mr Oremens
That was a pretty rude remark to someone who was obviously helping you. That is unfortunately very common attitude with our "youth" today.

all i mean to say is that im not being able to do all the sums of sedra and smith...specially the ones marked as difficult...wat should i do??

mr. oermens,
I really don't get why you accuse me of being conceited. There was a very small amount of people that were involved in the conversation; me, you mr (or mrs) ssatsaki, mr. razavi, mr sedra, mr smith, mr grey, mr meyer, mr howe, mr sodini. so I assumed that anyone didn't direct to any of those writers, I assumed the "anyone" was directed to me, since in my reply to mr ssatsaki's thread, I had indeed compared those two writers' books.
In this respect I may also add that english is not a native language of mine as you might have noticed, so I tend to misunderstand some common terms sometimes. I am not that familiar with the common saying "has anyone compared ... with ...". thus I thought the "anyone" might be referring to me. hovewer now I understand that it is generally used as an indication to an abstract, imaginary person. enlightened with this conversation I withdraw my assumption and withdraw my reply also.
coming to the point on razavi's book or books. as I have pointed out in my first reply I am only a third year eletronics student, thus my knowledge is not even shallow. so no one would take my advise as the best and the only one. so I see no obstacle to reveal my opinion on the subject, because I will not be misleading anyone.
regards,
keremcant

maybe you cannot buy all of them and read all of them. but you probably have access to a library and the library has plenty of books on analog circuits. so buy one of the books, say sedra/smith, and when you feel sedra smith is not good or not enough detailed at some topic go and find another book in the library.
for example I have used sedra/smith, grey/meyer and allen/holberg at the same time for a course. every book tells some topics better than the other one, if so I use that one. sedra smith was good for the basics, allen/holberg was detailed in two stage op-amps and grey/meyer was good for the project that I had to do for the course.
