solder paste

how do you use solder paste?

I have to solder some sensitive small components so would it be a good to use the paste instead of reg. solder?

Re: solder paste

Hi,
Do not use solder paste for sensitive components if you are using it for the first time. Secondly, use only required amount, not more. It is especially critical for Hi-speed or RF circuits.
Hope this helps

solder paste

For small components dont use solder paste.

... if they are not too 'sensitive'...

Re: solder paste

While I dont reccomend novices to use solder paste. If you do use it apply it sparingly. Then you need to heat it (the assembly) either on a hot plate or in a IR oven.
Just use some fine solder like .020" dia

Re: solder paste

I thought it would be easier to use solder paste for SMD sensitive devices. Here's my idea. Get a stencil cut for the land pattern for the SMD. Apply the paste to the stencil on the board with a "sqeegy" to remove the excess paste. Place the SMD. Use a hot air pencil to heat just the leads of the SMD and you are done.

I always found it time consuming and tedious soldering SMD's with an ordinary temperature controlled soldering iron. Not to mention overheating the board damaging the traces. Also it look's a bit neater.

Hot air pencils are fairly cheap nowadays so it would probably be a worth while investment. I picked up one while I was oversea's for about $100US. Mind you it is 230v not 110v, and the custom nozzles cost and arm and leg.

That's just my 2 cents worth.

You must say what kind of sensitive components?? SMD or or or ...

If you can solder this comp. with standard iron, i suggest that you use only tin. it have in a middle kalfonijum and its best choice to solder safely ...

In a case that its some kind of SMD or BGA or or or package ... you must see .. for ex. BGA package must be solderer with special paste and and and ...

ok you must be more clear ...

bye!
