Hai,

I am using opamp LF356 as high gain amplifier with gain upto 1000 with +16 and -16 volts as powersupply to the IC.
I want to amplify the input DC transient of voltage 10mv to 100mv maximum. When the gain is changed from 1 to 1000, I found the signal in CRO is total distorted. At Gain of 1 to 100, when the signal view in CRO of 5mv/div or 10mV/dvision , it appears the signal is of fair quality. But if I observed the same signal at gain 500 or 1000, the same signal appears in CRO (in 1v/Division range appears as floating one (may be more noise) . Though I have used good power supply and filtercapacitors at the powersupply terminals. My question is how can I improve the signal quality at high gain without degrading the slewrate of the opamp. In my case the slewrate of 1micro second/volt is recommended. Is there need to change the opamp of different type or any suggestion.

Also suggest me the precautions at PCB level.

With Thanks

The unity gain bandwidth is only around 5MHz so if you try to amplify by 1000 you will only have a few kHz bandwidth. How fast is you signal?

Also, depending on you circuit (which you haven't shown) you could be amplifying the opamp input offset.
