    Fault codes for a M266A motherboard

    Does anyone know where I can find the fault codes for this MB.

    When I switch the computer on, there is no bootup info on the screen & I can hear beeps.

    I understand that these indicate hardware faults. But I don't know how to interpret the beeps I'm hearing.

    Any assistance will be appreciated.

    what beeps do you hear

    long and short
    forinstance

    be be be be beep is a memory issue {4 short 1 long }
    beeep be be be is a video card error {1 long 3 short}

    you want to use google and look for
    post error beep chart or similar

    all pc machines use the same post beep codes

    chances are its a video card error if you have no display

    probably some dust in the video socket
    or a ram not seated right or gubbed

    be be be be be is a mpu error usualy regulation or gubbed caps

    Thanks very much for that info & link.

    That gives me a good starting point.

    I'll let you know what I find.

    Re: Fault codes for a M266A motherboard

    I turned the PC on and there were 3 long beeps. Therefore a Keyboard issue.

    So I plugged in the keyboard (a USB one) that I was using with it before the fault & heard the same beeps.

    So I tried 3 different PS2 keyboards all with the same result.

    I tried a PS2 & the USB one together - same result.

    The LEDs on the keyboards don't flash as they normally do during bootup.

    So I assume there is a hardware fault on the motherboard in the keyboard drive area.

    So I'll remove the MB from the case & have a close look at that area.

    However, as I don't have a circuit diagram, I don't like my chances of finding the fault - unless it is something obvious such as a dry joint.

    I'll let you know the outcome.

    Thanks for the input.
