I want to eliminate the 50Hz input transformer in the regulated power supply design operating from mains.

Can I have a reference to those you normally find in DVD players etc.?

I will come up with means to change the o/p power rating.

The electric isolation transformer should be in the HF switching section.

Any ready references are welcome.

several manufacturer are designing integrated switchers for flyback switched mode power supplies like:
www.irf.com
www.powerint.com (topswitch)
www.st.com (viper)

refer to their application notes for details (specially powerint !!!) about transformer design and construction, closing the feedback loop, and isolation using optocoupler.

you can go to www.mcu.cz to download dvd shcematics,then find it's power supply.
 

With regard to a switched mode power supply, does anyone have a circuit for a switched mode power supply for converting 220v ac to 12v dc at 500ma? I have a bit of a space constraint so a conventional linear power supply cannot be used.

go to powerint website. they have a low power family called Linkswitch which is suitable for ur application
