[SOLVED] Desktop Speakers convert to Bathroom Speakers

Hey i was wonderin if anyone could help me out... i'm a bit new at this stuff.

I have a pair of old cheap 4 ohm 3 watt desktop speaker that was sitting around in a pile of my old electronic stuffs and i got the idea to convert it into a battery powered bathroom speaker. i took everything apart and built my own speaker enclosure thats relatively waterproof but i'm not exactly sure how to change it into a battery powered speaker. do i just take out the 9V AC transformer completely and just replace it with like 6 C cells?

Depending on the type of rectifier the power supply uses, if it's a bridge rectifier, you could probably get away with removing the tranny and replacing it with batteries.
It shouldn't hurt it to try.
Alternatively, locate the rectifier and remove it and connect the batteries to the main +- supply line. Make sure you get the polarity right otherwise the amp may smoke and your efforts will be in vain.

One trick to splash proof speakers is the put them in a thin plastic freezer bag and re-mount them. Keep the bag loose around the speaker. The loss of sound quality or volume won't be significant at this level.
 
thx... ummm now i feel really stupid. whats a rectifier? oh and how do i tell positive and negative?.. its labelled ac1 and ac2.

A rectifier is a component that converts the alternating current (AC) out of the transformer to direct current (DC).
The amplifier needs DC voltages to work.

Normally you use a multimeter.
In this case if you are using a 9 volt battery the positive is the smaller male connector (it's usually marked on the battery).
One problem is that by connecting the battery directly to the circuit board there may be no way to switch it off.

Can you photograph the inside of the box showing the mains wiring and PC board so we can get a better idea of the layout?
