Good day everyone.! Does anyone can help me on my project? ''Eye detection sensor: a developmental research on alert system for drivers fatigue.'' my plan is to use a camera to m0nitor the m0vement of the iris but i d0nt knw how will i start., please i really need it...

Re: Eye detection sensor

Much work has been done in this field. This article cites several good references: **broken link removed**. This student project is well documented and contains more references: **broken link removed**. This link shows a system designed for the same purpose using a different methodology: **broken link removed**. There are many others.

Re: Eye detection sensor

Just be careful not to damage the eye. Make sure that you have the health clearance for this otherwise you may land up in a court case.

what are the effects of camera on our eye...? Is it detrimental? What i will be used in the project is a CMOS IR-Based camera..

Re: Eye detection sensor

The focusing of a digital camera is normally been done by IR. With any IR signal that is to long and too intense you will burn the retina. The exact amount will be different for different age groups, state of health, and a lot of other things.
My suggestion is to setup your device to always have the same distance from the eye. Pre determine the focus and set it manually. Then don't make use of the IR focusing of the camera. In result never impose any IR signal into the eye.

Re: Eye detection sensor

It will be necessary to illuminate the subject's face with IR at a safe level, no lasers, for the system to work in a car, especially at night.

is it possible that i will just only use IR at night time? So that its effect will be reduced in a safe level...

Re: Eye detection sensor

I think you'd be using IR all the time since ambient lighting in cars is fickle all day. There is no safety issue with IR illuminators. If there were we'd all be blind from our TV remotes by now. Large arrays of IREDs are used in conjunction with video cameras for security applications.

Re: Eye detection sensor

Another reason for using IR all the time is so you can do frame subtraction - subtract one frame without the illumination from one with the illumination. It will remove a lot of spurious data.

are there any replacement for IR based camera?
