Hi FFT gurus.

Are there any applications using 4 points, 8 points or 16 points FFTs?
If yes could you please list those applications?

Thank you very much,
Tiksan

Does the silence mean that there are no applications for those FFts?

I mean the following:

Is there any video, audio, compression etc algorithms (or, is there any standards (it can be media, communication, wireless etc)
) where those FFTs are used?

For example DCT (discrete cosine transform) is used in the JPEG compression standard.
But for 4, 8, 16 points FFTs I didnt find any applications.

Dear FFt used for frequency analysis.
DFT is also transform in discreat. so fft can also be used in diffrent applications where dft can be used.
dft has better results than fft.
thats why fft is not so popular in implimentation.

well, FFTs are a method of exploiting properties of a DFT for specific sizes (generally factorable as 2^n, 4^n, or 3,5,7,11...)

FFT's, at least by the radix2/4 methods make the 4 pt "fft"/"dft" trivial. The radix-2/4 algorithms are predicated on the trivial complexity of a 2/4 point DFT. Such DFTs use no multiplications. (though expansions' twiddling does in the 16pt, 256pt, ect... cases)

The smaller transform windows give high temporal resolution but poor frequency resolution. I don't know of any single dimensional apps that use 4pt windows.

oh Dear, yes it is really used in video compression algorithm. it is used in MPEG-1,MPEG-2 algorithms
it is also used in MIMO -OFDM systems

The MPEG-1,MPEG-2 algorithms exploit DCT not FFT. The FFT it used in the OFDM, but it is not 4, 8 or 16 points. As I know the FFT in the OFDM starts from 128 point.
The question exactly about 4, 8 and 16 points 1D FFTs.
Thanks for responses.

oh dear let me know you that 512 point fft is used in MPEG -1 COMPRESSION ALGORITHM. I stongly recommend you that you should go through MPEG-1 standard which is freely available on INTERNET
