hi guys
i have found a component in circuit labled "MN1280R"
after finding datasheet on internet i found following specifications
Peak Detector - Power-up reset detector 4.0-4.3V
Panasonic
Detectors
Nom. Supp (V)=5.0
Package=DIP
Pins=3
Military=N

Can anyone tell me what is this and for what purpose this is used?

It's a hysteresis reset for microcontrollers. Complete data sheet: **broken link removed**. It's a discontinued product.

A description of it's function is in the introduction of this document: http://focus.ti.com/lit/an/slva360/slva360.pdf.

Here is a data sheet for another device of similar function for reference: **broken link removed**.

Basically its a "power on reset circuit" IC.
I am using PIC18f252 controller, and there is an "BROWNOUT" option for power on reset
should i need to connect that external IC or the pic will do that job by using "BROWNOUT" option.
