Hello guys, new member here.

I tinker around a bit with large homemade RC cars powered by various 2-stroke motors.
They're getting bigger and bigger and I'm getting to the stage where I need to start looking at converting 12V motors to steering servos.

Plenty of people around the place have done it, but it seems impossible to get enough information out of anyone to get an idea of the components needed.

I understand that the way to do it is to split open the standard RC servo, cut the wires going to the motor, install the H-bridge to power the 12V motor and use the potentiometer from the RC servo to tell the new motor where to be.
Got that.

I've looked at lots of wiring diagrams, but all the names and numbers of the different parts mean nothing to me.
Basically - I don't know my resistors from my capacitors or anything like that.

Any info appreciated.
Cheers.

for steering with dc i would recommend using relays not mosfets and use a micro-controller to operate them and to have also it would be good it you use a rotary encoder

an ic called L293d may help you..

L293D is definitely not going to work, because the type of motor he is trying to drive sucks more power, and L293D outputs 1A max. So this hinders the RC's locomotion. You will have to build a custom H-Bridge based on either Relays or Mosfets

Hope that helps!
