I have been using Eagle off and on for about 3 years, and in that time, I have learned how to make basic devices. I am trying to make a device that is a little more complex than what I am used to (256 BGA), and in doing so I have discovered what eagle calls gates. My new device consists of 1 foot prints, and 7 symbols.

I split the symbols out intentionally in the hopes that I could place them on separate schematic sheets to make my design cleaner. This is where I have run into my problem, I can’t figure out how to move a symbol to a new sheet.

I saw several things online that said to cut it, close the board, delete the old one, paste the new one, open the board, and then run an ERC. However, every time I try this it creates a new device footprint on the board.

If anyone knows how to do this correctly, I would greatly appreciate the help.

Thanks.

I cannot try it at the moment, so it may be wrong, but it may be possible to 'invoke' the next gate on a new sheet by the command line. So instead of clicking on invoke and then the symbol on the first sheet, go to your new sheet and type 'invoke ...' in the command line. You would need to look up the syntax for the command - it will be in the help.

I won't be able to look at how to move gates between sheets until tomorrow.

By the way, the PCB forum is probably a better place for these questions.

I tried it, and it seems to work. Thank you very much.

I have just tried the "copy" method and it doesn't work. As you have found, the "invoke" does. If it is IC1 then typing "invoke IC1" brings up the selection list and works fine.
