What is wavelength range of IR light?whether 400 to 900nm range comes into IR part.we are making the circuit which detects the white LED having wavelength 400nm to 900 nm which phototransistor should i use?

Visble light is 400 to 700 nm. IR is above 700 nm. To detect visble light, you can use any potodector without visible light blocking filter (any with a transparent case respectively window).

What do you mean by potodetector without visible light blocking filter?will you please give me link of site having these information

A few photo detectors have a so called "daylight filter", easy detectable by a black case material, that's only transparent to IR radiation. The datasheet will clearly indicate this feature.
