I am trying to use an audio generator to produce frequencies (1 to 300 Hz), in order to use them as input to a microcontroller. I have taken the output of the sound card, and made a simple circuit with LM393 comparator to produce a 5v TTL pulse. But when I do this and check the output (with a logic analyzer, I don't have a scope) I see that there is a lot of ringing at the leading and falling edge of the resulting pulses. I am not sure why this is happening, I doubt the input frequency itself is ringing.... Any ideas? Thanks.

Possibly due to bandlimiting filters or output amplifier behaviour. A comparator can be fed by a sine as well, it won't show ringing. Some comparator hysteresis would be reasonable to process slow edges anyway.
