I have a wide devices of W/L 120u/0.6u. I am planning to do multifinger device simply because of the area issue in layout.

What is the limitation in # of fingers ?

What is the exact usage of multifinger devices ?

Is it good without informing my designer to proceed with fingering?

The PDKs which I know, don't put a limit on the # of fingers. More often the W/finger is limited, e.g to max. 10 or 20µm.

  • to achieve a reasonable aspect ratio
  • to achieve lower parasitic series resistances to all terminals

If the designer has special requirements re. fingering, he normally should attach his desired # of fingers to the appropriate MOSFET(s). If he didn't, I'd say this means he actually doesn't care. But in doubt (he could have forgotten about it), I'd inform him anyway. Doesn't cost you anything, does it?
