design horn antenna

Hi,

I am working on the design on horn antenna operating in a frequency range between 8.0-8.5 GHz. I have designed the modified version of Pyramidal Horn Antenna. In this version, I have removed the two side walls and tops walls of the horn opening flare remains there as it is. With this, I have achieved a gain of 15 dB and a beamwidth of 75 degrees which is much higher the traditional horn antenna beamwidth. Can u please tell me the effects might take place while removing the two side walls or any other side effects with this modified version. Waiting an early reply

There is an antenna like this which uses only two sides and is driven by balanced feed.

Flatulent,

Can u provide me link or some kind of pdf format file where this antenna is discussed as mentioned by u

Hi,
While removing the two side walls or any other
side the beamwidth at the another side is be very
narrow as like as infinite lenght and you you can
use normal horn formula and the results are have
a small telorance in an experimental antenna the
results for gain is only 0.7-0.9 dB far from the idea
horn
Best.

if you have a CAD that permit the analisys of corrugated walls, you may replace into the simulator a corrugate wall instead the removed one.
Whit some approssimations, a corrugate wall play the role of a "non metallic" wall.

Rem. that until now an accurate simulator for extremally low gain piramidal horn don't exist.

I saw this in an amateur radio handbook from at least 20 years ago. I cannot remember which one or which year.

hi look at that link

look for corrugated horn antenna project at it
