serial interfacing between pic microcontroller and plc

I want to serially communicate between plc and microcontroller halfduplex. Plc is seimens' s7 300 and microcontroller is pic 16f877a

I have no knowledge about modbus protocol. Please give me detail knowledge of my task. I am new in plc and microcontroller.
