How do I copy a footprint from a layout (.max file) to another .max file or to a library?

Is the max file for Orcad Layout tool.
Provide more detials about the tool used.

.max is Orcad file.Schematic to PCB LAYOUT transport information only PART REFERENCE netlist and PCB FOOTPRINT, you can change FOOTPRINT NAME on it.

Hey, thank you for responding.

I am using the Orcad PCB CAD tool, "Layout". The output from this program is a .max file. Cadence creates a .brd file, Layout creates a .max file.

So what I have is some old layout files (.max files) from an existing design. The libraries were never saved globally so the original foot prints are lost. They do exist in the .max files for these boards. I need to do the next generation product and I would like to use these proven footprints. It seems like I should be able to copy them from the old .max file to my new layout and/or save them in a new library for future use.

I have spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to find out how. I don't see it covered in the documentation or help files.

Any ideas outside of building them from scratch again?

This is a very late comment to this thread, but it may help others with the same issue.
This should work at least for ver 9.0 Layout.
You can just add the MAX file as if it were a LLB file from within the library manager.
You do this by opening library manager.
Then click add library button.
It will offer to open files with extension *.LLB , pick "files of type" *.max instead of *.LLB.
The max file gets added just like a normal library file.
You can then copy and save footprints to existing libraries.
Another option is just to open the *.MAX file as normal and save it as *.LLB This deletes the layout information in thre new *.llb , but the files seem to bloat a bit.
---------------------
This actually allows some nice tricks for creating libraries with documentation for printout, by creating max files in place of llb files.
