hi, I need to design USB connection between my PCB board and the computer, I find there are USB series A and series B connector...Any difference between them? which one is better?

Re: what is the difference between USB series A and series B

USB A is for host...
USB B is for device...

Re: what is the difference between USB series A and series B

Thanks, davorin.

I got another problem. Is there any difference between USB2.0 and USB1.1 in hardware configuration, including the connector schematics and the cable? Could anyone help? thanks.

Re: what is the difference between USB series A and series B

There is no difference in todays cables for USB 1.1 and USB 2.0...
Maybe older cables can´t keep up with 480MB/sec...

What you mean by "hardware configuration" ?

You wanna design own USB device or a USB host talking to device?

Re: what is the difference between USB series A and series B

there ARE differences in the cables (shielding, ...). Additionally a USB 2.0 cable should be marked with "USB 2.0". Consider the USB 2.0 specification on that point.
But it's right that a "normal" cable often works with 2.0 devices - but not always.

Re: what is the difference between USB series A and series B

hi, davorin,
I actually wanted to ask whether the footprint of the USB2.0 connector is the same as USB1.1 connector, and also the wires in the cable.

Currently I need to put a USB1.1 connector on my PCB board design, for the controller only support USB1.1 . So I was asking whether USB1.1 and USB2.0 are using the same connector.

When I searched on the internet, I found most of cables are for USB2.0. so I am not sure whether I could use the USB2.0 cable instead.

Another thing, Can someone help to give me the link to download a footprint of USB1.1 series A receptacle(such as URA-1001)? Thanks.

Re: what is the difference between USB series A and series B

USB is upwards compatible. So of course an USB 2.0 cable and connectors can be used for USB 1.1. Also the footprints are the same.

For datasheets & footprints search on e.g. https://www.molex.com for an appropriate receptacle.
Btw. I think for your device you need a "B"-type, not an "A"-type which is used in the PC.
