punctured turbo code tutorial

I 'm studing TURBO CODE and find puncturing and
reptition are very difficulty to understand.
Who can explain it to me, or introduce a good book
my god.

Re: about Turbo code!!!

Hi,

Maybe you can search on google with keyword "turbo code tutorial" and find some useful links. There should be several tutorial papers on turbo code around. Study the basic idea first and then punctured code. A good understanding on convolutional codes and viterbi decoding helps a lot.
I remember there's a book named "error-correction coding for digital communication" which explains those communication algorithms quite well.

Re: about Turbo code!!!

if u have a specific doubt on puncturing one can help.
there is quite a bit of it in Digital Communications by Proakis
as Punctured Convolutional codes.

i found the explanations given in the IEEE 802.11a phy specs very simple and satisifying as it gives the practical procedure of puncturing.

Re: about Turbo code!!!

What are the differences in terms of complexity and size (silicon area) between :
- Hamming codes
- Reed-Solomon
- Viterbi
- Turbo codes
Do Reed Salomon and Turbocodes consume large silicon area ???

How to decide FEC (forward error correction) when designing a dedicated wireless link ?
