PC flash BIOS programming

bios programming

I have PC mother board model "Iwill P4S ver 1.1" I had download the latest BIOS version from Iwill USA site and programmed the BIN file contained in the self extracted file using flash programmer not the DOS utility. when I inserted the flash with the new BIOS the computer did not start "only give continous double tone beep problem". I reprogrammed the old bios again but the problem remains as it is, what may be the mistake I had done and how can I solve this problem. your advise will be very apreciated, mainly as my PC is dead now and Iwill Tech support did not reply to my e-mails.

Why you dont programmed bios with dos utility, I use meny times and never have problems. Maybe your flash memory isn't good any more, try to program some other chip.

I also programmed some BIOS-Flashs with an EPROM programmer without problems using the updatefiles. So normally it's possible.
Did you clear the CMOS-Settings via jumper on board or something?

programming the BIOS in an EPROM programmer is e.g. necessary if you have a CPU on hand which isn't supported by the current BIOS.
Another reason is that you have really an 1:1 copy of the BIOS. The backup function of the DOS utility doesn't always work correct (did you ever tried to flash it back - hehe?)

Hi Al Farouk,
I have programmed hundreds of PC bioses (for customers who had problems with flashing) by justing writing the binary file with a programmer to the chip and it was always sucessful :)

Is your bios chip in DIP or in PLCC, if it is in PLCC maybe you have the wrong adapter for programming??

Also does your programmer support the chip you want to program as there are at least 50 to 100 differt types of bios chips ...

most of new motherboard's bios are on flash memories, and the user can program it without using any programmers just with a simple software through dos or windows. as C-MAN said , may be you used wrong adapter to program it, so the most easy way is to:
- find a pc with motherboard the same as yours , and when it is running in windows or dos, replace its rom and put your damaged rom (be sure that it has no risk) but do it carefully, then program the flash with the file you have(you can find many tools of programming flash on net), then replace your own flash memory with the original and
if you did it well it would be run on your motherboard.
 

I think the problem was due to that I did not clear the CMOS. I did not sure that is the source of the problem as after clearing the CMOS the PC did not start. I had removed all cards,RAM's, Drivers to avoid any other device cause the problem and powered on the PC, I heared the normal beep. then I rebluged the devices one after one and the PC finally work normally. The most bad thing that non of the Iwill technical support office over the world dos not reply to me.
