AVR microcontroller + Matlab

hello,
i'm a final year student working on my project which is portable dialysis machine. After a lot of asking i found out that the best simulation program is MatLab. so i was wondering how to make a connection/communication between MatLab and microcontrollers knowing that i'm used to CodeVisionAVR and Proteus.
 

Serial Communications would probably be the most straight forward. Here are plenty of tips on the net showing how to accomplish this, here are a few:
