Hi ,

The electrical length ( teta) for a given physical length L of the microstrip is defined by. Therefore,
teta = 90° when L = lambda.g / 4 (quarter-wavelength) ,
teta = 180° when L = lambda.g / 2 (half-wavelength) ,
teta = 360°

But to have a line microstrip for a coupler rat-race, I must choose which value of teta .

Thank you .

Hi,

The attached drawing should be helpfull.

3 lambda /4 corresponds to 270 degrees, lambda/4 to 90 degrees as you noticed.

HI
Look at this example

broken link removed

electrical lenght=phase shifting = beta *L

it found the longor of the line by a simulator, beta * L = 360°

It obtains L = 92.75 mm

the rate-race in @ds

**broken link removed**

And if made L = (6/4) lambda, L = 255 mm

why :?: :?:

Hi,

6/4 lambda equals to 540 degrees electrical length.

so if lambda is 92 mm, 6/4 lambda is 138 mm

hope is clear now.

Effect length is based on frequency and Physical length!!!

hi...
I am designing two differential microstriplines at 5GHz.
I have calculated width W and gap S of two microstrip lines, substrate height H using single ended impedance Zo=50Ω and differential impedance Zdiff=100Ω, dielctric constant er=4.6, 35um thickness of conductor...

how to calculate the physical length of microstrip line and how do i get the electrical length in Ansoft 3D?

Hi, it is easy, try free software TXline: https://web.awrcorp.com/Usa/Products/Optional-Products/TX-Line/
