I am looking at possibly buying a budget-minded DSO for limited digital and analog troubleshooting and design. I don't need speeds greater than 25MHz, so both of these would be ideal.

However, are these complete trash or are they OK for the price? It seems that Atten and Instek models are about the same, considering they even share the same model number (1022)! Both are out of China.

Another consideration of mine is the Tektronix TDS 210. Another lower-end DSO.

Does anyone have experience with these scopes? If so, post up! Thanks!

you wont make good analog troubleshooting with a digital scope, especially a low budget one ...
consider buying a used mixed scope like a hameg or a fluke, you will get one for the same budget and will be VERY happy with them.
for digital troubleshooting please consider a logic analyzer instead. small one for seeing i2c or spi or rs232 signals.
regards.

Can you please elaborate on why a digital scope is not good for analog troubleshooting? Is it because a digital scope is too slow and cannot display spikes and noise properly? Is it because the inputs are too noisy in general?

As an EET undergraduate, I used a Philips/Flukeview digital scope. I do not know the exact model number. It was large, similar to an older, analog scope. However, it was able to display measurements, do FFT and take "snapshots" of waveforms for analysis. We used these scopes extensively and they were great, outperforming any analog scope of yesteryear. There were, most likely, extremely expensive pieces of equipment, however!

yes mainly spikes are not displayed properly.
often analog troubles comes from spikes, and you won't see them on a low budget digital scope
if you have a mix of low and high frequencies on a signal, you will see one, not the other on a digital and you can see both on them on a analog scope.
I own a mixed fluke scope I bought 5 years ago on ebay, and I always switch from analog to digital and reverse when I want to be sure of what I see on the screen, especially when I troubleshoot a device... and trust me sometimes you are very happy to have both modes... signals dont reveal the same "face" with digital or analog view...

That, I think, is the same exact scope I used back in the day. Great scope. How much did you pick one of those up for?

I remember paying around $1000 with shipping and customs 5 years ago. they are no more produced but were around 10x this price when new ... I see regularly the same on ebay for $500-700. you can get hameg mixed scopes (used) for less and they are great too. this fluke 3394 is really a nice scope I always dreamed of ...

sometimes there are professionnals sellers which try to sell them for more than $1500 with some warranty on it. just search ebay for pm3394 starting at a lower price. they rarely exceed $700. just be patient and you can get one too ...

still no bid on this one too ... seller has no luck ...

Yes, I checked past time before yesterday & was self right surprised!
OK, for us in Europe is a delivering of ca. $ 200,- to expensive, but to end is a Oscope for ca. $500,- = I think these is OK for that equipment...
Maybe the most peoples dont see the "value" of a good instrument in that!?

Yet, 17:05, is no more (or only momentan?) listed...

the original poster says in its profile he is from Middle USA so shipping is far less... this scope is a real affair ...I don't care I already have one ...

today the only scope that i find better for my uses would be the tek mso2024
... the logic analyzer is also in the box
... but it's available new for 4000+ euros
... so let's wait some years to get it at 500 euros
... :(
