the same functionality which we get in fpga we can get in microcontrollers also..rite..?
and like fpga in vlsi fiels, what hardware kit is used in embedded systems for verification purposes?

Re: advantage of using FPGA than microcontrollers based desi

Programmable Logic Devices offer a cost effective alternative to
custom microprocessors due to their generic nature with the
added benefits of short time-to-market, no NRE costs, off-theshelf
availability, ability to control inventory in peak and trough
times, and ability to reduce total cost of ownership over the
lifetime of an end product.
Microprocessor obsolescence is a major concern for many
companies. Programmable logic can provide a viable solution to
this problem. By using soft core microprocessors embedded
within a programmable logic device, not only can you own the
processor core for use in any future devices and platforms, but
the design can be both flexible and scalable to suit different
platforms.

"The biggest advantage of FPGA's is usually speed: you can solve your
problems in 'hardware' rather then in software, make use of
parallelization. Another big prob with microprocessor is flexibility: you can create your own
peripherals, cpu cores, etc. "

but FPGA'S are much expensive than microcontrollers. if u r designing 4 higher speed and need greater integration density.. then FPGA'z are suitable.. for smaller projects go 4 microcontrollers..
