yeah, for design and verification. pdf will be really nice :)

The free IEEE standards are available through this link. Draft standards are not included in the Get IEEE 802 program.
For some reason, 802.3ae-2000 also isn't available under the program.

P.S.: I wonder if the said standard contains any information in addition to 802.3-2008_section4?

thanks a lot FvM. i'm not sure of the above standard. i just wanted to use the opencores project for 10gbps ethernet MAC and build a verification IP around it. i thought this was the spec. for it. If i'm mistaken about it, plz correct me.

The IEEE catalog tells:
802.3AE-2002 Part 3: CSMA/CD Access Method and PHY Specifications - MAC Parameters, Physical Layer, & Management Parameters for 10 Gb/s Operation

Superseded by IEEE Std 802.3-2005 Define 802.3 Media Access Control (MAC) parameters and minimal augmentation of its operation, physical layer characteristics and management parameters for transfer of LLC and Ethernet format frames at 10 Gb/s using full duplex operation as defined in the 802.3 standard. In addition to the traditional LAN space, add parameters and mechanisms that enable deployment of Ethernet over the Wide Area Network operating at a data rate compatible with OC-192c and SDH VC-4-64c payload rate.

802.3-2000 ( 802.3 asof year 2000) is a subset of 802.3-2008 ( 802.3 asof year 2008)

Basically , all new ethernet standards come under the same document ( 802.3) , and
they are added as new clauses .

For eg, as of 2003 , It had 54 clauses ( something like 54 chapters in 802.3 Book)
then in 2006 , 10GBase-T (10Gbps on UTP cable) was done , so it was added as
clause 55. later 10GBase-LRM was defined , it was added as some clause , etc...

for eg. 802.3ae represents new clauses 44 to 54 i guess , and other changes to
previous clauses bcoz of them.

The future standards like 40Gbps/100Gbps ethernet will be added as clause 80 to clause 90 i guess .

so the document gets bigger and bigger and ... , as the time goes by.

Also if your company has access to IEEE xplore , then u can download any
IEEE standard for free .

Thank you for clarifying the amendment scheme. I guessed right for 802.3ae-2000, but I didn't yet understand the systematic.
