Hi friends,

I have a microcontroller evaluation board (STmicroelectronics).
This board is connected to the PC through the USB.
But I want to connect this board to PC through UART (serial communication RS232).
I found a USB to UART converter (FT232RL made by FTD Inc.) .
Can I connect this converter to the microcontroller evaluation board ?
Can this happen ?
Will the data of the microcontroller evaluation board comes as USB data to the converter and here it is converted into UART data, then this UART data is sent to PC through RS232? Will this happen ? Can this be done ?
I dont know how to connect , please give me your suggestions.
Waiting for your suggestions.

thank you,

Re: connecting a usb to uart converter to microcontroller bo

This won't work:
FT232 itself is a USB device. It's connected to a USB host (PC).
Same with your eval board: it's a USB device and it's connected to a USB host (PC).
There's no possibility to connect an USB device to an USB device.

But why not adding a simple level converter (MAX232 or similar) to your eval board. As it's an evaluation board there's usually an UART available.
