PIC16C84

Hi all,

I am just getting back into electronics and thought I’d start out by building a simple PIC programmer.

**broken link removed**

On the link it says it will only program PIC16C84 chips however I can’t seem to find these in any shops I can only find PIC16F84.

Please can someone tell me what the differences between the 2 pics are and will this programmer work with the PIC16F84?

Thanks

Jack

PIC16C84

PIC16C84 is one time programmable (OTP), so if you're new to PIC and learning, avoid it!!

Go for 16F84 flash version instead which can be re-programmed again.

JDM PIC programmer you posted above do support 16F84, so I this there should be no problem.

Good luck

And if you plan to stay with PIC all the way to PIC24 or dsPIC or even higher, then you can buy the PICKit2(love it!) or the newer PICKit3(don't know much about this), cause it's gonna prove to be a better buy in the long run.

Re: PIC16C84

Thanks again Jack// ani, I finally got around to making my programmer and got a 16F84, its works brilliantly.

Thanks

Jack

Re: PIC16C84

PIC16F84 is very nice, was a nie school to me but try to get some thing better!

Go to ebay.com, search some used kit, like an old kit with a pic16f87X kit, maybe an ICD2 or a PICKIT2 a clone or the original one..

Last weeki i bought and renensas H8 starter kit with E8 debuguer by only 8 bucls! on a ebay bid! The shippment was more expensive than the kit! 15 bucks! make sure to search few days and I'm sure you will find a very good kit by a reasonable pice!
