Hi, I am materials engineering student and my final year project title are " Smart House" or we called it home automation. I was in-charge the home security part. So far i was facing the problem for glass break detector electronic circuit. I plan using the shock/vibration sensor as for my glass break detector. Thanks

A selective glass break detector in contrast to a simple shock sensor senses the high frequency solid-borne sound specific to breaking glass. It's almost unsensitive to false alarms e.g. from clicking against the window. You can consult the descriptions of professional burglar alarms to get an idea of their operation. I would generally suggest piezo transducers as sensors.

thanks for the reply. Did you have any web site or link for the glass break detector? I wish to know how the circuit function and refer to some example. thanks ya..

No, I don't have. My experiences with burglar alarm systems are before the www. If I remember right, there have been e.g. passive LC resonators (with the piezo transducer as capacitor) that triggered a thyristor in case of alarm. The frequency range is rather ultrasonic range.

I have few questions regarding the proposed detector using the piezo-electric transducer.

1. Will the piezo-electric transducer need to mounted on the glass?Since glass is slippery and vertical, how it will be mounted?

2. If any body tries to use a glass cutter, will it also detect that frequency and trigger?

Thanx,
Sheraz

Thanks for the reply.. Did you have any suggestion? Because latest glass break detector have dual sensors technology. The detector will use the sound and the vibration to reduce the false alarm. Because my fundamental for electronic stuff not good enough since i am major in materials engineering. I was facing a problem to build up the detector. Thanks for the help ya..

Transducers can be perfectly glued to a glass surface, e.g. by a thin layer of silicon rubber or special double-sided adhesive film.
