Battery charger

Hi
I am designing a battery cahrger for 12V Ni-Cd battery 40AH.

I think a 12V DCDC converter with current limit to 1A or 2A should be OK fro charging. Please correct if there is any issues.

Can any one help me in designing a adjustable current limit at the output of the DCDC converter?

thanks
ravi

For any battery, a charger of one tenth of its amphere capacity is ideally suited. thus 4 amps in your case. Is your battery really a NI-Cd battery with 40 AH?...may be I am hearing it for the first time. Also i didnt get the logic behind your idea of using a DC-Dc converter. Can you please explain it in detail?..Cheers

Battery charger

Thank you for your quick response
I am sorry.
It is a lead acid battery pack [sealed] with rating 12V and 40AH. We have a 48V DC power supply.
I have designed DCDC swticher with LM5575.
So the idea was to extend the same DCDC circuit to charge the battery, with some additional circuit.

thanks
ravi
