doubt on ferrite!

why is ferrite core used in RF chokes!i think to reduce the size of the RF choke, for example. a 1mH RF choke with ferrite core will be smaller than the 1mH air core rf choke.am i right! what is SRF and what is its role in a RF choke!

Re: doubt on ferrite!

It is to raise the inductance so that fewer turns can be used. Since ferrite has high resistance, it does not add to the parasitic capacitance.

doubt on ferrite!

SRF means self-resonance-frequency. Choke operation as a RF block is provided up to a frequency slightly above SRF.
