Can anyone recommend me a popular 16-CPU architecture and it's popular C development platform ?

Re: 16-bit CPU

one well established is the intel i196

otherwise go with the ti's msp430

the latter is a better investment

Re: 16-bit CPU

HI

msp430 from ti

But why you want use 16 bit?! I think you need 8 bit like as AVR series for small projects and 32 bit ARM7 for normal projects ,AVR is from atmel and I recomment ARM7 from philips because they are a good way from migeration from 8 to 32 bits,

Re: 16-bit CPU

Hi

Infineon's or ST's C166/ST10 could be of interest depending of your embedded needs :

Here are some links to development tools :

I think KEIL is the most popular C compiler for C166/ST10.

IAR makes C compilers for almost every MCU/CPU platforms available.

Renesas (former Hitachi and Mitsubishi semiconductors) also makes som popular 4, 8, 16 and 32 bit MCU/CPU's.

Look at this post to choose a CPU:

elcielo, the Samsung chip is very nice but if you do not need some of the peripherals on the chip, this can be an expensive solution. For ARM solutions, I would always ask, how much memory would be needed. If it is less than 1 MB, then I would advise going in for a single chip solution such as Oki or Atmel. Both of these have wait states for Flash and RAM so in case speed is critical, look at Philips LPC series where the Flash (only upto 256 kB at this time) is 0 wait state memory. Works very well at very high speeds.

The Hynix 7202 ARM chip is nice but I have not received quantity pricing as yet (for over a month now!) so I can not say if the chip is good or not as yet.

no matter whose chip and what kinda peripherals u need, arm7, the core itself is anyway a good choice

Re: 16-bit CPU

i recommmend Nec 78k4xx or Intel xx96 intruction set nearly each other

16-bit CPU

If you want to make toys ,I recommmend Sunplus 061A.

Re: 16-bit CPU

you can work on arm processor in thumb mode and ads(arm developers suite ) is good tool

Re: 16-bit CPU

Please check out! If cypress semiconductor has any PSOC board available on 16-bit platform and also check free availability of tool and software if your doing some project.

Re: 16-bit CPU

I can suggest 16LX family by Fujitsu. I have long term experience with them and found good performance, lower price than competitors and good documentation.

Softune is the C IDE that is freely available in Europe.

See Fujitsu link for all technical details and info:

Re: 16-bit CPU

I have a good feel with Motorola Family of microcontrollers, the tools are good and the debug can be done by a very low cost BDM tool.
