Hi,
I have an opportunity to take an 'intensive' introductory course in Perl :
'Perl Programming I' offered by the University of Calif., Santa Cruz Extension. This course is taught over three full days of instruction/lab by the author of the text :
'Perl by example, 4th ed.' by Ellie Quigley.
Does anyone know how worthwhile this course might be ? And, in general, how useful is it going to be to learn Perl - I am a 'mixed signal' [mostly analog] IC design engineer working mostly at the transistor level of circuit design. What is Perl mainly used for in Linux/Unix or IC design ? Is Perl anything like Cadence's SKILL ? Would this help with self-learning SKILL [Cadence's courses in SKILL are way too pricey] ?
thanks,
