pic16f84a circuit

hello guys i'm a student need more information to make my final years project... so i need help in find i/o circuit for pic 16f84a can be use with vb6..because i'm using vb interface to active the pic.. the project objective is, if student come to university they must touch they student card to barcode scanner, then if data match in data base i have build in vb6 it sent pulse to pic using i/o port to open the gate...hope somebody can help me.

Hi you can use either a serial port or FTDI usb ->serial .Look in the doc of Vb6 how to open serial ports and parallel ports . Is really very simple!

Hi meoraiman,

If you don't require a lot of data to be transmitted, or very high speeds, I'd reccomend you either use RS-232 or you could use the parallel port on your computer and tie it (via a buffer or opto isolated) to the IO on your PIC.

If you go down the RS-232 path, as eltonjohn said - you CAN use FTDI usb->RS232 converter, or you could just use an RS-232 transceiver (e.g. MAX232) with a couple of caps (all standard documentated in the datasheet stuff).

There is HEAPS of info about this on the internet. Google will help!
