Hi!
I need to construct an RF signal generator from 800 to 1900 MHz
Any ideas? any schematics?
Thank you

Re: RF Signal Generator

You can use Philips SA7025A or SA8025A synthesizer and a VCO that cover that frequency range.
Here you can find some applications:

Search Philips site, they do have small application software that allows you to program SA7025A using your PC parallel port.
When everything is done you can replace the application software with a microcontroller.

Re: RF Signal Generator

Can i use mu HP signal generator? (his range is up to 1GHz) with a frequency doubler to achieve the 1.8GHZ?
are there any examples or schematics for that?
Thank you

Well, there is a lot of Signal Generator available in the market. Why don't you buy a Sig Gen from Agilent/HP ...... which cover up to 2GHz? Unless you have tight budget to buy equipment. If you use doubler, you need additional filtering.

Re: RF Signal Generator

Yes.
I have a tight budget, that's why i'm looking for dubler schematics
and because i have allready a signal generator that has cost me money.

Try Agilent 8648B 9kHz-2000MHz/4000MHz Signal generator. I guess the price is less then USD6k. Check out the price at

If you ready cannot afford to buy, design frequency multiplier. It is simple using PIN diode or SRD (performance is better), but you would need additional filter and amplification to suit your need.

Re: RF Signal Generator

but where to start? are there any schematics similar to that?
i've checked many companies like minicircuits nothing really found

Re: RF Signal Generator

Another sugestion would be to check out ATV sites.
You'll find quite a few synthesizer circuits in the microwave region, and practical examples with theory and circuits.

cheers

Leosedf: do you really want to design a signal generator? I would advise you to purchase Nova frequency synthesizer at 1500-2200MHz (P/N:NS2-1500104) or 1700-2200MHz (P/N:NS2-1700104) range. The frequency can be programmed and power level can be set. I purchased 1 for investigation purpose. The price is <USD 150.

THe website can be found here:

Can you afford USD150  or you want to design a doubler? 8O

Actually, double is quite simple to design using PIN diode (inverted pair). You can request 10 free sample from Agilent. But the efficiency of the pin diode frequency multiplier is poorer than a SRD frequency multiplier.

I guess your problem is solved now.... :)

Re: RF Signal Generator

SRD? i've never done anything like that. how can i do it?
any links?

Re: RF Signal Generator

SRD= Step recovery diode. The design required some understanding on the behaviour of SRD. I think for beginner, you can refer to the attached document to design multiplier using PIN diode. However, you need additional filtering and amplification at the output of the multiplier....
