I am working with two dc-dc converters operating one at a time and whenever i switch over from either one, it results in a power spike. How do i eleminate this surge? The input is 28V and 15V is output. Help needed guys.

well you are doing load sharing by the sounds of it.

there are special controllers made for you.

your converters, though bot 28V.......they will not BOTH be ABSOLUTELY 28.00000000V.

They will be different...and each will charge up its output cap to different voltage..and when you change over....SURGE AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You must make it so that they both feed in to the same output cap.

use a current sense on each and as one hogs all the current supply.........get the other one to step on up to the fore...etc ad infinitum.

Controllers are there for you....is it UC3908 OR UC3907 or UC3902....I forget.

The system under consideration had to to have redundancy so it has two seperate modules and thus two seperate converters for power and during the testing a spike is observed during switch over. However i will try to common out the output cap for both the converters. Thx for the idea.

look up "hot swap" controllers

and load share controllers

what uyo do is a common problem
