tv to osciloscope

Is it possible to build osciloscope with pcTV? like a soudcart the pctv have A/D converter :?:

comment utiliser pctv pinnacle comme oscilloscope

It is possible, but you will have very poor performances. I used once a soundcard as a signal aquisition board, and I've displayed the waveform with cooledit. But the maximum frequency you can see is around 10khz. The theory says that in a digital sampling system, the sampling frequency must be minimum twice of the highest frequency component of the sampled signal. Thank to Nyquist for that. In practice, to obtain a good representation of that signal, the sampling frequency must be min 6-10 times higher. Almost all soundcards have 44,1 os 48 khz sampling frequency, and some of them have 96khz. Also, many circuits which are essential in digital storage oscilloscopes ( triggering system, phase error correction circuits, etc.) are missing. But as I said, if you are satisfied by these performances, then you can use it. Take care only with the amplitude of the signal, or you'll toast the chip from your soundcard.

Hi all,

The article (that I'm gonna show next) may not be relavant to this post. However, I cannot stop myself :) seeing the keywords "oscilloscope" and "TV".

You guys may find this project useful eventhough this TV oscilloscope can only handle low frequency ( in the ranges of xxx Khz ). This project needs only one MCU (ATMega32) and a few components.
