HPGL&DXF data format used in PCB milling machine?

pcb milling software

Hi, everyone:

I am new to PCB milling & drilling machine field. I understood the supported file formats of PCB milling & drilling machine are Gerber (RS-274D or RS-274X) and Excellon drill, but HPGL and DXF are optional.

My question is how could HPGL or DXF data format be used in PCB milling & drilling machine? Or is HPGL or DXF file with PCB drilling information if somebody output PCB manufacture file by use of HPGL or DXF file format?


Can somebody help me? :oops:

hpgl milling machine

For PCB milling, you ned to start with the gerber format. Then you need a software to convert the gerber file into isolation toolpath. This software requires a few inputs from you like the thickness of the milling tool etc. The next step is to save this file as an HPGL or DXF file. This file is then picked up by the milling CAM software which optimizes the toolpaths. This step is optional but milling will take many times longer if you dont optimize the tool paths. Then finally, the milling machine will mill the PCB.
