L298N to control a 12V DC motor driver - problem

motor driver

i have tried using L298N to control a 12V DC motor which required to drive 1.44A, but i found that the output of L298N that generate to the motor tend to drops to half of the voltage that i supplied to input pin of L298N, and the maximum voltage that manage to supplied to the motor is only achieve around 3V, while i required 7~8V for the motor to lift certain load...anyone have any idea on it???

My guess is that the resistor connected to the sense pin is too large. The motor is requiring more current that the sense pin resistor is permitting to flow through the circuit.

Does the motor run if it is connected without any load?

Note: The datasheet indicates that the gates within this part can be connected in parallel for more current. You may require a parallel connection.

the motor is running at free load, just but the voltage that supplied to the motor can reach around 3V, which the motor rotate at slow speed, and i try to increase the voltage at input pin but it only can reach 7V, i direct connect the sense pin to ground, i have tried 10 ohm for sensing resistor but the motor not rotate at all at that moment...

You didn't tell a word about the intended control method (PWM or simple on/off operation). Rsense would utilized in constant current PWM mode or possibly as an overcurrent sense. 10 ohms is a clear case of a too large resistor, as guessed by banjo. But there may be more faults in your circuit.
