Hi friends,

I have a question about new technology 3.3V :

¿Can a device PIC24HJ256GP210 handle and communicate with module UART from a 5V device?

I know only digital pins can handle 5V TTL levels, it also implies for transmission and reception events such as a UART serial communication between 5V and 3.3V devices?

Thank you very much.

The input pins are 5 volt tolerant, so that shouldnt be a problem.
3V3 might drive the transceiver reliably, you will have to test it.

thanks for your answer.
have you ever had this problem? maybe with other microcontrollers?

Yes, I have had a similar problem, I had to interface a 3V3 micro with a 1v8 mobile phone interface in a usb dongle. Very little space as the circuit was in the connector.
The solution was to use open collector single gate logic chips in sot23-5 package for the level translation.
