What DSP board should I buy -> I AM A NEWBIE

dsp video board buy

Hi Everyone,

I will be taking DSP next year in school and I want to be prepared in advanced. I find this topic very interesting. However, I have very little knowledge on what board is good and bad. Cost isn't really an issue unless its excessive.

I'm looking for one that can be used for both intermediate and advanced projects.

All suggestions are welcome.

HI i just got a the P1 board from this guys .

it comes with 2 cpus (analog device's blackfin 800 mips and and an atmaga64 avr )and possibilitty to buy an fpga and and other boards that connect to it )
This board is cheap and very proffesionally done .It comes with software (monitor sources ) and connector to program it .They will be realeasing a new arm based board that connects to it .The arm will be running Clinux and all the dsp power will available to do just DSP processing .This if you don't want to run Clinux natively on the blackfin.
Well ,price is just $95 .
You can also connect digital cameras to it .As a matter of fact this dsp comes with a

I think you should go for fpga board optimized for dsp like spartan 3a dsp
 

Thanks for the post guys!

What I hope to do with this board is somehow use it with a home-made antenna to transmit and receive signals maybe get some sort of Radar up (detection of transmitter location from reference reciever).

Also, the board should have lots of tutorials for a newbie :D
 

Well if price is not a problem .You should get a Ti 6713 floating point dsk or a 6416 fixed point .These boards have a lot of support .
Usually when you learn Dsp is alway easy to do algorithms in floating point notation .But for developing a comercial product fixed point dsp are cheaper .
So both have to be considered
