USB protocol

Hi All,

I have one basic doubt.

How USB being an serial transfer communication protocol can communicate much higher speeds compared to serial protocols.

Reagards,
Siva.

Re: USB protocol

Higher clock rates.

Higher clock rates.

Yes , that c an be.

we can use similar higher clock rates in serial also right ?

In that case both(serial, USB) should be having same speed ranges right ?

But it is not.

Re: USB protocol

USB uses low voltage differential signalling and the transceivers have been developed and tuned for higher speeds.
RS485 also uses differential signalling, but is considered an older technolgy, so I doubt if much work goes into improving the speeds.

USB 3 is on the way with speeds of up to 4.8 Gbit/s (600 MB/s).

USB protocol

you will have to note that usb has a restriction on the length of connector and power consumption due to this...
