c6734-60161a

I have a motor and arbor from an HP scanner. HP circuit board c6734-60161A
The motor has a shaft encoder on the end.
It looks to be optical and single channel.
The wire colors are BR,G,Y,R,O,Black

How can I figure what the other wires are?
I only have common bench equipment.

Green and Brown are power leads to the motor.
The other wires connect directly to optical sensor...Agilent(54)
stamped with Q9843 and 0328.

I figure 2 wires for LED and two for the light receiver.. but is the receiver
the photo-transistor or photo-diode type or what??

Hello,

this "Agilent Q9843" (if this is the real name) is not just a single channel light switch, it's an optical encoder chip, able to detect speed and direction (similar to whats inside optical mice).

Pin 1 (square pad) black = GND
Pin 2 orange = Output A
Pin 3 red = +5 V Vcc
Pin 4 yellow = Output B

You may need 1-10 µF buffering capacitor on Vcc to avoid noise on the outputs. Connect power and the the outputs A and B give a 4-quadrant signal (90 degrees phase shifted). You can use any fast microcontroller to count these pulses and determine the position of the motor (use interrupt inputs)
