Multimode vs Monomode
-----------------------------

I know that multimode optical fibers accept light rays with a wider range of acceptance angles than the monomode. Now for diff. wavelengths of light the relative refractive index varies and also do the critical angle. My question is can both mono and multimode accept various wavelengths the same way or is there any advantage using one over the other?

Also, what abt the submarine cable network, do we have monomode or multimode fibers over there?

Multimode in its standard term means something that I described. I dont think your reference to multimode is the one.

for long distance communication we use single mode cable n for short distance communication we use multi mode cable

Miltimode is optimitzed to work with LEDS and VCSELs at 850nm and 1300nm and you can use one WDM to mix both wavelengths to use only one optical fibre.

In Singlemode you can use FP lasers in 1310 and 1550nm (and use WDM's). Other expensive lasers like DFB is designed to work in high density of data, but the price is expensive.
