Simple Radio Control? Need solution to problem

simple radio control

I want to control a device by radio, three states: equivalent to left (01), right (10) and do nothing (00). Range about 3 metres in air but through a 10mm solid, so can't use IR.

Security is not an issue, but interference is - I don't want it activated by spurious transmissions. There are plenty of complex solutions involving ZigBee or KeeLoq, and plenty of solutions for radio control cars but with the possibility of interference. I need something in between.

Any ideas?

You make with ZigBee of course.
Go to ST Microelectronics, and download ZigBee® REva kit library package: https://www.st.com/stonline/products/support/micro/files/um0389.zip
This is primary for the REVA ZigBee kit, containing libraries and sample applications for ST Micro's like ST7, STR7, STM32, and You can modify it according to Your needs.
And soon ST will provide a simple, USB dongle like ZigBee eval kit as well...
