SPDIF output

hi
what is the use of a SPDIF output in a motherboard or an AGP Card ? Can we use it to connect it to the television?

SPDIF frames are the standard for digital audio connections, it's the same format your CD audio uses to connect with your HiFi power amp (altought probably over a optical link) and then you have now the same advantages connecting your PC.
