There are many instances where hobby projects need the equivalent of a wall adapter. And the hobbyist would rather spend time on the main project than building a heavy adapter with a transformer and such! or a complex switching converter!

Is there an IC that:
1> Converts AC (110V and 220V) to DC (say 3V to 12V) in an efficient, as-light-as-a-cellphone-charger method? The ease of use should match say a 7805 or a 317 ldo!
2> Can such and IC get a power boost using a high voltage external FET such as the IRF 640?
3> Can such an IC be protected against input voltage surges with another simple IC or a simple inline inductor or such?
4> Is there at least a DC-DC LDO switching IC to replace 7805s and 317s?

Hai Akshay,

Try these: SR03 Series from Supertex. Regulated 3.3V or 5V O/P
and 12V unreg O/P at 100mA.

tanh you

Thanks... that seems interesting!

hi akshay
