boost conveter

Hello Everyone, this is my first post!

I am presently trying to design a voltage controlled light source. Basically I have a supply that has a 0 to 5 volt swing, I need to convert that swing to 0 - 24 volt to power my light source.

I tried with a current sense amplifier but it was capping my output at 12v although the swing there was working good. I hope you have better ideas than i had so far.

Thank you!:D

If the switching supply is powered from 0-5V, at low voltage it may not work at all, because the switching circuit needs a not so variable input voltage, and well above 0V.

You need a separate power supply either switching or linear (classic voltage amplifier with error amplifier), and the 0-5V input is used as a refference for this supply. You calculate it to have Vo=4.8 * Vref, thus giving 24V out for 5V ref voltage.

Alternatively, you may use a microcontroller that has ADC and PWM generation. The PWM will drive the switch, and the ADC reads 0-5V input and output, maintaining the correct relation.

Well actually the IC that I was using was powered by 24v. The 0-5 volts are external to my circuit. They are there just to regulate the intensity of the light. Problem being that to control the intensity i need 0 to 24 volts. I found another IC the MAX4172 that might do this for me, I am still waiting for maxim tech support to open so i can call them.
