slotline definition

Hello,

Does anybody have a step by step description of the port creation process for a slotline and cpw in IE3D and ansoft designer?

Thank you

slotline port

Hi, kato01:

CPW port is discussed much in IE3D user's manual.

However, for slotline, you need to be careful. A slot on an infinite ground plane does not have a single fundamental mode. You may not be able to model it using transmission line theory even though a slot line as port of a circuit without ports are possible. If you define a port on a slot line with infinite ground plane, you will not get consistent results.

You can get reasonable results using a slot line on finite ground. A slot line on finite ground is basically a CPS structure. When the strips are not very wide, you will be able to have well defined s-parameters and transmission line parameters. If you strips are too wide, you may get into higher order propagating modes easily.

Best regards,

For CPW
At first, you utilize the same procedure with microstrip line to establish port on your signal line.
Next, click right botton of mouse, and find negative port.
Establish the negative port at both two grounds.
That's all. Good luck!
